The CMI EB3100 is an equipotential bonding grid kit, 3 feet wide by 100 feet long, giving 300 square feet of coverage for the perimeter band around a pool. It is installed under the deck before the concrete goes down, and tied into the bonding system that connects the pool shell, the equipment and the metal around the pool.
Why it matters
Equipotential bonding is what keeps a swimmer from becoming the path between two objects at different voltages. The grid under the deck, the water and the metal fixtures are all connected so that they rise and fall together, and there is nothing to bridge. It is a code requirement on new pools and on deck replacements, and it has to go in at the construction stage.

What is equipotential bonding for?
It connects the deck, the pool water and every piece of metal around the pool so they all sit at the same electrical potential. Without it, a swimmer or someone standing on the deck can complete a circuit between two things at different voltages.
How much area does one kit cover?
The grid is 3 feet wide by 100 feet long, so 300 square feet. Measure the perimeter band you need to cover and order accordingly.
When does the grid go in?
Before the deck is poured. It sits under the concrete around the pool shell and is tied into the rest of the bonding system, so it belongs to the construction or remodel stage, not to a finished deck.
Is this the whole bonding system?
No. It is the perimeter grid portion. The pool shell, equipment, ladders and other metal are bonded to it with the rest of the bonding wiring, and the whole system should be installed and inspected to the local electrical code.
