Product details

APi E-Z Pool Concentrated Pool Blend is a granular, all in one weekly pool treatment made by APi Water in Jupiter, Florida, for above ground and inground swimming pools, including salt water pools. One dose a week oxidizes, controls algae, clarifies and conditions the water, maintains water balance, and inhibits stain and scale. It is a non-chlorine, oxygen based pool shock with a copper algaecide (EPA Reg. No. 70131-1), so one scoop is your chlorine-free pool shock, pool algaecide and pool clarifier. It is not a sanitizer, so keep using your chlorine, bromine or salt system.

What makes it different

  • Triple chelated copper sulfate, a non-staining copper algaecide for swimming pools. Cheaper copper sulfate algaecides can discolor a pool's finish.
  • Proprietary non-phosphate stain and scale control, stronger and longer lasting than competing products. It keeps calcium suspended, so the water feels softer.
  • No fillers. The strongest formula available.
  • The original, sold through pool professionals since 1996 and made in the USA.

Use it for

  • Weekly care that keeps algae and cloudy water from starting: an all in one pool care solution in place of separate pool chemicals
  • A weekly shock pool treatment for above ground and inground pools on chlorine, bromine, salt, mineral, ozone or UV
  • Pools with automatic covers: APi says the cover can be closed 15 minutes after adding it to a circulating pool
  • Closing the pool for winter

It is not for

  • Clearing a pool that is already green or cloudy. Clear it first with chlorine or APi's Revive!, then start the weekly dose.
  • Replacing your sanitizer
  • Lowering calcium hardness

Weekly dose by pool size

Fill the 8 oz scoop that comes in the pail to the fill line, about half a pound. Double the first dose at the start of each season and for a new pool.

Above ground pool Est. gallons Weekly dose
15 ft round 5,738 2 scoops
18 ft round 8,232 2 scoops
21 ft round 12,214 3 scoops
24 ft round 14,650 4 scoops
27 ft round 18,559 4 scoops
30 ft round 21,000 5 scoops
33 ft round 26,600 6 scoops
15 x 30 oval 13,029 3 scoops
18 x 33 oval 16,866 4 scoops
Inground pool Est. gallons Weekly dose
12 x 23 rectangle 8,100 2 scoops
14 x 26 rectangle 10,250 3 scoops
16 x 32 rectangle 18,350 4 scoops
18 x 36 rectangle 22,400 5 scoops
20 x 40 rectangle 28,800 6 scoops
17 x 35 oval 19,500 5 scoops
21 x 41 oval 27,800 6 scoops

With a salt chlorine generator, mineral purifier, or ozone or UV system, use half the chart dose. In one application, never add more than 3 times the weekly dose. APi says you can swim 15 minutes after adding E-Z Pool to a circulating pool.

How long a pail lasts

Each pail holds about 2 scoops per pound: 10 in the 5 lb, 20 in the 10 lb, 40 in the 20 lb. Full weekly doses per pail:

Weekly dose 5 lb 10 lb 20 lb
2 scoops (15 or 18 ft round, 12 x 23) 5 weeks 10 weeks 20 weeks
3 scoops (21 ft round, 15 x 30 oval, 14 x 26) 3 weeks 6 weeks 13 weeks
4 scoops (24 or 27 ft round, 18 x 33 oval, 16 x 32) 2 weeks 5 weeks 10 weeks
5 scoops (30 ft round, 17 x 35 oval, 18 x 36) 2 weeks 4 weeks 8 weeks
6 scoops (33 ft round, 21 x 41 oval, 20 x 40) 1 weeks 3 weeks 6 weeks

The doubled first dose of the season uses one extra week's worth. At half dose on a salt, mineral, ozone or UV pool, a pail lasts twice as long.

Getting started

  1. Have your water tested, then balance it: calcium hardness 350 ppm minimum, pH 7.2 to 7.6, total alkalinity 80 to 120 ppm.
  2. Double the first dose to charge the water, at the start of each season and for every new pool.
  3. Add E-Z Pool near a return jet, and keep adding sanitizer to your skimmer, feeder or floater as directed. With a salt chlorine generator, keep stabilizer at 50 ppm and adjust the generator setting to suit.
  4. Repeat every week, and have your water tested monthly.

Closing your pool

Add 1 lb (2 scoops) per 5,000 gallons, straight into the pool or dissolved in a bucket and poured around the edge. No pre-treating or balancing is needed. It oxidizes contaminants and protects against algae through the winter, so spring openings are faster and the water is clearer.

Storing the pail

Keep the pail closed and dry, and never put a wet scoop back in it.

Questions and answers

What people ask about this product, answered by our pool techs.

What chemicals are in E-Z Pool?
The active ingredient is copper sulfate pentahydrate, 1.6% (metallic copper 0.4%), the copper algaecide on the EPA label (Reg. No. 70131-1). The rest of the blend is APi's oxygen based oxidizer, clarifier, water balancers and proprietary non-phosphate stain and scale control, with no fillers.
Do I still need chlorine with E-Z Pool?
Yes. E-Z Pool replaces chlorine shock, not your sanitizer. Keep using chlorine tablets, bromine or your salt system as directed. With E-Z Pool doing the oxidizing, you swim in lower chlorine.
How soon can I swim after adding it?
APi says you can swim 15 minutes after adding E-Z Pool to a circulating pool.
How long does it take E-Z Pool to work?
APi says it starts working as soon as it is added: the fast dissolving formula begins oxidizing contaminants, preventing algae and clarifying the water right away. You can swim 15 minutes after adding it to a circulating pool.
Will E-Z Pool clear a green pool?
No. It prevents algae and has no sanitizer, so on its own it will not clear a pool that is already green or cloudy. Clear the water first with chlorine or APi's Revive!, then start the weekly dose.
Can you shock a salt water pool with E-Z Pool?
Yes. E-Z Pool is a non-chlorine salt water pool shock, formulated for use with salt chlorine generators. Use half the chart dose each week, keep stabilizer at 50 ppm and adjust the generator setting to suit.
What is a non-chlorine shock?
A non-chlorine shock oxidizes the contaminants in pool water, including the combined chlorine that makes water smell, without adding chlorine. E-Z Pool's oxidizer is oxygen based, and the same scoop carries a copper algaecide, a clarifier and stain and scale control. It does not sanitize, so you keep your chlorine, bromine or salt system.
Do I still need to shock with chlorine?
Not as a routine. APi says weekly E-Z Pool replaces chlorinated shock. Use a chlorine shock only when your chlorine level is below range or algae is already growing.
How much do I add each week?
From 2 scoops for a 15 or 18 ft round pool to 6 scoops for a 33 ft round or a 20 x 40 inground pool. Fill the 8 oz scoop to the fill line, about half a pound. Double the first dose each season.
How long does a pail last?
A 10 lb pail holds about 20 scoops: 10 weeks for a pool that takes 2 scoops, 5 weeks at 4 scoops, 3 weeks at 6. The 5 lb lasts half as long and the 20 lb twice as long.
Can I close my pool with E-Z Pool?
Yes. Add 1 lb (2 scoops) per 5,000 gallons, straight into the pool or dissolved in a bucket and poured around the edge. No pre-treating or balancing is needed.
How is it different from other weekly pool treatments?
The copper is triple chelated, a non-staining copper algaecide, where cheaper products use plain copper sulfate that can discolor a finish. The stain and scale control is proprietary and non-phosphate. There are no fillers. E-Z Pool is the original, sold since 1996.
Can I use it with an automatic pool cover?
Yes. APi recommends it for pools with automatic covers: the cover can be closed 15 minutes after adding E-Z Pool to a circulating pool.
Do I still need an algaecide?
No. APi says E-Z Pool carries a maintenance dose of long-life algaecide, so a separate weekly algaecide is not needed.
Does E-Z Pool work with bromine?
Yes. It is formulated for use with bromine as well as chlorine, ozone, UV and salt chlorine generators. Keep a low, steady bromine level and test and balance as usual.
Does E-Z Pool lower calcium hardness?
No. It keeps calcium suspended so it does not scale, which is why the water feels softer, but the calcium reading stays the same.
