Porcelain is the only tile type recommended for pools, spas and water features. The difference is quality rather than category: the clay is purer and more refined, which makes the finished tile tougher, denser and far less permeable. With water absorption under 0.5 percent, porcelain resists staining and holds up through freeze cycles that would damage a more porous tile. This one is rated frost proof and chemical resistant.
