The Unicel FG-2417 is a replacement DE filter grid measuring 17-1/2 inches by 24 inches, built as a rectangle with a center hub port. It fits Anthony DE filters.
What the grid does
DE grids are the fabric elements the diatomaceous earth coats. That coat is what actually filters the water, and the grid is the frame and cloth that holds it in place. When the cloth tears or a seam separates, the DE has nowhere to sit and washes straight through into the pool.
Signs it is time
DE returning to the pool after a charge, cloudy water that will not clear, or a filter that runs at unusually low pressure all point at a grid problem. Pull the set and look for splits and thin, worn fabric.
Replacing
Grids live in a matched set inside the filter. Fit the same size back in, and if the rest of the set is the same age and visibly worn, changing all of them at once avoids a second teardown.
