Taylor R-0009-A is sulfuric acid at .12 normal, supplied in a .75 oz dropper bottle. It is the titrant used to run a total alkalinity test.
What it does
Alkalinity is measured by counting the drops of acid it takes to bring a sample to its endpoint. The strength of the acid is what makes each drop mean a fixed number of parts per million, which is why the .12N figure matters and why a substitute of a different strength gives the wrong answer.
Buy the bottle, not the kit
Reagents run out at different rates, so a single refill bottle is usually all that is needed. Taylor advises replacing reagents about once a year regardless of how much is left, because chemistry that has sat for a long time quietly stops reading true.
