Product details

The Little Giant 177344 is the replacement float stem plunger assembly for the APCP-1700 automatic pool cover pump. It is supplied as the stem and plunger together.

What it controls

The APCP-1700 is an automatic pump: it is meant to sit on a winter cover all season and start itself whenever rain or snowmelt collects, then stop once the water is gone. The float stem is the mechanism behind that. It rides up with the water level, closes the switch, and drops again when the puddle has been pulled down.

Why it is usually the stem

A cover pump spends months sitting in dirty standing water full of leaf debris, grit and silt. That material works into the stem, and the assembly starts to bind long before the motor gives any trouble. The symptoms are a pump that runs continuously with nothing left to pump, or one that sits idle under an inch of water. Either way the motor is often fine and the stem is the part to change.

Which pump is this for?
The Little Giant APCP-1700 automatic pool cover pump.
What does the float stem do?
It senses water on the cover. When water collects the stem lifts and the pump starts, and when the water has gone it drops and the pump shuts off.
