Product details

The S.R. Smith Institutional lifeguard chair puts a guard 6 ft above the deck on a permanent four post frame. It is built for the pools that need it most: large institutional, municipal and club pools where one guard has to cover a lot of water at once.

Built for active scanning

The seat swivels a full 360 degrees, so the guard turns with the swimmers rather than craning around a fixed seat. Above the posts, an extended observation platform gives a clear, comfortable vantage point over the whole pool area.

Small footprint, permanent install

Because it anchors to the deck, the Institutional needs very little space around it and stays exactly where it was put. That also makes it a natural elevated seat for a coach during practice or a judge during a meet when a guard is not on the stand.

This is a large, heavy item and ships by freight.

Is this a portable chair?
No. The Institutional is a permanent four post unit that anchors to the deck. If you need something you can move, look at the S.R. Smith Standard Portable or the portable O-Series stands instead.
How tall is it?
The seat sits 6 ft above the deck, which is what lets a guard see across a large pool area.
Does the seat turn?
Yes. The seat swivels a full 360 degrees so the guard can track swimmers in any direction without leaving the chair.
How much deck space does it need?
Very little. The four posts have a compact footprint and the observation platform extends above them rather than out across the deck.
