Product details

AquaChek 562012 borate test strips come 25 to a bottle and read the borate level in pool water.

Why a separate test

Borate is added to pools as sodium tetraborate pentahydrate, sold under a number of additive brand names. Standard multi strips do not read it, so once you have dosed a pool with borate you have no way to see the level without a dedicated test. That matters because the effect people are after depends on staying in range: steadier pH, an algaestatic contribution, lower chlorine demand, and water that feels softer and looks clearer.

Using them

Test after dosing to confirm where the pool has landed, then check through the season. Borate does not burn off the way chlorine does, but the level still falls with dilution: backwashing, splash out, and topping up after rain all pull it down over time.

Questions and answers

What people ask about this product, answered by our pool techs.

How many strips are in the bottle?
25.
Do I need this if I already use a multi strip?
Yes, if you dose borate. Standard multi strips do not read borate, so a borate treated pool needs its own test to know where the level sits.
What is borate used for in a pool?
It is added as sodium tetraborate pentahydrate. Owners use it for steadier pH, an algaestatic effect, reduced chlorine use and water that feels softer and looks clearer.
How often should I test?
Test after each dose to confirm where you have landed, then check periodically through the season, since the level drifts with dilution from backwashing, splash out and rain.
