Why lamps get changed on a schedule

A UV lamp does its work with germicidal output you cannot see. That output falls off steadily with hours of use while the visible glow stays much the same, so a lamp that still lights can be doing very little. Replacing on the manufacturer schedule, rather than waiting for it to go dark, is what keeps the system actually sanitizing.

Handling

Hold the new lamp by its ends. Oil from skin left on the glass creates hot spots that shorten lamp life, and if you do touch the glass, wipe it clean before the lamp goes in.

While the unit is open

This listing is the bulb only. The quartz sleeve and its o-rings are separate parts, and a sleeve that is scaled, clouded or cracked will undo the benefit of a new lamp, so look them over during the change.
