Quad ring, not an O-ring
A quad ring has a four lobed cross section rather than the simple round section of an O-ring. That shape is why it seals the way it does in this joint, so it is worth using the specified part instead of whatever round ring is nearest to the right size.
When to fit one
Whenever the large collar comes apart, and straight away if the Fusion is weeping at that joint. It is a small part that stops a leak at the sanitizer, and it costs far less than the water and chemistry lost while you put it off.

Which seal is this?
The quad ring for the large collar on the Zodiac Nature2 Fusion. The lock ring uses a different part.
What is a quad ring?
A seal with a four lobed cross section rather than the round section of an O-ring. It seats and seals differently, so substituting a plain O-ring is not a like for like swap.
Should I lubricate it?
Seals of this type are normally fitted with a silicone based pool lubricant. Do not use a petroleum grease on pool seals.
When should I replace it?
Any time you take the large collar apart, and immediately if the sanitizer is weeping at that joint.
