What it does
The impeller is what pulls water and debris up into the filter. Everything the cleaner picks up passes it, which is why it wears: vanes chip on gravel, edges round off, and the pickup weakens without the motor sounding any different. Owners usually blame the filter first when the impeller is the real cause.
