Product details

The Pulsar 79214 is the 1 HP booster pump from the booster pump installation kit for Pulsar's PS-45, PS-140 and PS-500 calcium hypochlorite feeders. It is a feeder part. It does not circulate or filter the pool, and it is not a booster pump for a pressure side cleaner.

What it does

It runs in a 1-1/2 inch loop taken off the pool's return line. The pump raises the water to about 35 psi for the feeder's spray and wash down nozzles, and its flow through the venturi draws the solution out of the base of the feeder and back into the return.

Wiring

Pulsar wires this pump for 115V single phase only, on a circuit with a 15 amp breaker or larger, installed by a licensed electrician. It ships set for 230V, so the jumper is moved to 115V before it goes in. Pulsar warns that a 208V supply falls short and will damage the pump. In a Pulsar system the control panel powers it only when the flow switch in the return line sees flow.

Before the first start

Get water into the pump first. Pulsar's fix is to open the union on the discharge side a little until water runs out freely, tighten it, and then start the pump. Starting it dry can cost the seal.

Can I wire the Pulsar booster pump for 230V?
Not in a Pulsar system. Pulsar wires the 1 HP pump for 115V single phase only, with a 15 amp breaker or larger, installed by a licensed electrician. It leaves the factory set for 230V, so the jumper has to be moved to 115V first. Pulsar also warns that 208V service is not enough and will damage the pump.
