Swamp Treat is a 1 lb algae treatment from United Chemical, made for pools that have gone fully green rather than for weekly maintenance dosing. One pound treats 20,000 gallons.
How it is used
The product is activated by chlorine, so a treatment is one bottle plus 4 lb of shock or 4 gallons of liquid chlorine added together. From there the filter does the rest of the work: as the algae dies it comes out of suspension and has to be pulled out of the water, so run the pump continuously and expect to clean or backwash the filter more than once while the pool clears.
What it does not do
There is no copper or other heavy metal in the formula, so the treatment itself is not a staining risk. The chlorine you add with it is, which is why granular shock should be pre dissolved and broadcast across the surface instead of poured down the side of the pool. The water still holds a chlorine residual afterward, so this is a reset rather than a replacement for regular sanitizer.
