The Taylor K-2005-SALT is a complete test kit covering chlorine and bromine, pH, total alkalinity, calcium hardness, cyanuric acid and salt. Chlorine is read by the DPD method, and the reagents come in the larger .75 oz bottles.
Why the salt version
A salt chlorine generator pool has one extra number to watch that a traditional pool does not. Adding the salt test to the standard six way chemistry means one case answers every routine question, instead of a test kit for the water and strips for the salt.
Reagents are perishable
Every reagent has a shelf life, liquid or powder. Storage conditions do more damage than age: Taylor advises keeping reagents at a steady temperature roughly between 36 and 85 degrees F, out of prolonged direct sunlight, and away from containers of treatment chemicals. Wide temperature swings, the kind a kit gets going from a cool garage to a hot trunk, are what shorten reagent life fastest.
Habits that keep a kit accurate
Replace caps immediately and tighten them so the reagent is not exposed to air and humidity. Never swap caps between bottles, never set a cap down on a dirty surface, and never pour reagent back into the bottle. As a general rule replace anything over a year old, or refresh the case at the start of a new season.
