How it is used
Dip the probe into a sample of pool water and read the display. There is nothing to add and no color to match, so a salt reading takes seconds instead of minutes, and the result does not depend on how good your eyes are in bright sun.
Range
The salt scale runs from 0 to 9,999 ppm sodium chloride, which covers the operating band of salt chlorinated pools and leaves headroom above it for a pool that has drifted high. TDS and temperature come from the same probe on the same dip.
Salt readings matter beyond the chlorinator. A cell will underproduce when salt is low and scale faster when it is high, so knowing the real number before adding a bag of salt is the difference between correcting a pool and overshooting it.
