The LaMotte 1749 is the Tracer Salt/TDS/Temperature PockeTester, a pocket meter that reads three values from one dip: sodium chloride, total dissolved solids and temperature.
How it works
Take a sample of pool water, put the probe in it, and read the result straight away. There is no reagent to add and no color to match, which is what makes it quick enough to use on every visit rather than only when something looks wrong.
The salt range
Salt is read from 0 to 9,999 ppm, which spans the levels a salt chlorinated pool is run at. That number is the one a chlorine generator depends on. When the cell stops producing, knowing the salt level first tells you whether to add salt or to start looking at the cell itself.
