Questions about this size

What size safety cover fits a 12 x 20 ft pool?

A 14 x 22 ft cover. A safety cover is cut to the pool plus about 2 ft, so roughly a foot of fabric lands on the deck on each side, and that overhang is where the anchors go. Order by the pool size, not the cover size.

How much weight does a 12 x 20 ft safety cover have to hold?

A 12 x 20 ft pool is more than 8 ft wide, so ASTM F1346 sets the figure at 485 lb. It is applied as 210 lb, 225 lb and 50 lb weights, each spread over one square foot and all within a 3 ft radius. Only pools 8 ft wide or under drop to 275 lb.

Do these covers need a cover pump?

No. Both 12 x 20 ft covers here are mesh and self draining, so rain and snowmelt pass through the fabric into the pool. Mesh does let some light through, which is why the algaecide dose under it is commonly doubled.

Will one of these fit a pool with a step?

Not as listed. Both covers at this size are cut as a full rectangle with no step panel. A stock step panel is 8 ft wide and 4 ft back at the water line, and a step larger than that needs a custom cover.

What kind of deck do the anchors need?

Deck on all four sides. The cover runs about a foot past each edge of the pool and the anchors are set through that overhang. Brass anchors tamp flush into concrete or paver decking and open and close with a hex key.
