Questions about this size

What size safety cover fits a 16 x 36 ft pool?

An 18 x 38 ft cover. A safety cover is cut to the pool plus about 2 ft, which puts roughly a foot of fabric on the deck on every side for the anchors.

Do I need a cover pump for a 16 x 36 ft cover?

Only if you choose solid. The PoolTux Emperor and the King light weight solid covers at this size hold rain and snowmelt on top, so they need a cover pump all winter. The Royal and King99 mesh covers drain through into the pool and need no pump.

How far apart are the straps and anchors?

On a 5 x 5 ft grid. Each strap runs to its own anchor set into the deck, so at this size the anchors land about every 5 ft around the perimeter.

How much weight does it have to hold?

485 lb, the ASTM F1346 figure for a pool more than 8 ft wide. The test applies 210 lb, 225 lb and 50 lb, each spread over one square foot and all within a 3 ft radius, which the standard describes as two adults and a child, enough for a rescue.

How low should the water be under the cover?

Manufacturers give it as a maximum, commonly no more than about 18 in below the top of the pool, because the water supports the cover under snow. If you choose a mesh cover the level will rise over the winter as rain drains in; a solid cover keeps the rain out, so the level stays where you set it.
