Product details

This King panel is cut for a 16 x 36 ft rectangular inground pool with no step to work around. The fabric measures 18 x 38 ft, and the extra foot on every side is what reaches the deck once the straps are pulled down onto the anchors. It is a solid cover, so the green sheet holds back all sunlight and keeps leaves, grit and rain out of the water entirely.

  • Solid fabric listed at 7 oz per square yard with a burst strength of 350 PSI.
  • A drain channel runs the whole length of the panel, and a mesh drain panel is built in to pull standing water off the surface.
  • Built at roughly half what a full weight solid weighs, so one person can move the folded panel further.
  • Straps sit on a 5 by 5 ft grid, tensioned by commercial springs that let the panel be drawn up tight.
  • Brass anchors and collars tamp down level with the deck and wind back up with a hex key when the cover comes off.
  • Anti rub strips sit where the webbing crosses the coping, which is where a cover wears first.

A safety cover and a winter cover are not the same thing under ASTM F1346. A safety cover has to pass the section 7 load test and shed standing water within half an hour of rain stopping; a winter cover is an other cover and is not a barrier. Section 8.12 makes the label say which you have.

What size pool does this safety cover fit?
A 16 x 36 ft rectangular inground pool with no step cut into it. The fabric panel is 18 x 38 ft, and that extra foot on every side is the overlap onto the deck rather than a pool measurement. Measure your own pool at the water line, wall to wall, before you order.
Is this mesh or solid, and what does that change?
It is solid. Water does not pass through the fabric, so rain and melted snow stay on the surface instead of running into the pool. PoolTux moves that water with a drain channel running the whole length of the panel plus a mesh drain panel, and lists a cover pump as the other way to clear it. A mesh cover works the other way round and needs no pump.
How much weight does a pool safety cover have to hold?
ASTM F1346 sets a static load test. A cover on a pool more than 8 ft wide has to carry 485 lb, applied as three separate weights of 210, 225 and 50 lb, each spread over one square foot and all placed inside a 3 ft radius. A cover on a pool 8 ft wide or under is tested at 275 lb. This panel is sold as a safety cover and is made to meet ASTM F1346.
How is a safety cover different from a winter cover?
Section 4 of ASTM F1346 sorts covers into powered safety covers, manual safety covers and other covers. A winter cover falls in that last group and is explicitly not intended as a barrier for a child under five. Only a safety cover has to pass the section 7 tests, and section 8.12 requires the label to state which classification the cover is.
