Product details

This King panel covers a 16 x 36 ft rectangular inground pool with the step at the center of one end. It is a solid cover, so the blue fabric passes nothing: no daylight down to the water and no rain through to the pool. PoolTux publishes the fabric at 7 oz per square yard with a burst strength of 350 PSI, and describes it as resistant to both ultraviolet light and mildew.

  • A drain channel runs the length of the panel, with a mesh drain panel built in to move water off the surface.
  • A cover pump is the other way of clearing water, which is the normal trade with any solid cover.
  • Built at roughly half the weight of a full weight solid, which matters on closing and opening day.
  • Backed by a 20 year King warranty.

A safety cover is a different class of product from a winter cover, and ASTM F1346 is where that difference is written down. Section 4 sorts covers into powered safety covers, manual safety covers and other covers, and a winter cover falls in the last group, which is explicitly not intended as a barrier for children under five. Only a safety cover has to pass the section 7 static load test, 485 lb on a cover on a pool wider than 8 ft, applied as 210, 225 and 50 lb over a square foot each within a 3 ft radius. Section 8.12 requires the label to state the classification, so that is where to look on any cover you already own.

What size pool does this fit?
A 16 x 36 ft rectangular inground pool with the step centered on one end. Measure your own pool at the water line, wall to wall, and order by that. A safety cover is sized to the pool, so the measurement of the panel that came off last spring is not the figure to use.
Is it mesh or solid?
Solid. Nothing passes through the fabric, so rain and snowmelt sit on the surface and no light reaches the water below. PoolTux drains it through a channel that runs the length of the panel and a mesh drain panel, and lists a cover pump as the other option. A mesh cover is the opposite trade: it drains into the pool but lets some daylight down.
How much weight does a safety cover have to carry?
ASTM F1346 sets the test. A cover on a pool more than 8 ft wide is loaded with 485 lb, put on as three weights of 210, 225 and 50 lb, each spread over one square foot and all placed inside a 3 ft radius. Below 8 ft of pool width the figure is 275 lb. Only a safety cover has to pass it; a winter cover is an other cover under the standard and is not a barrier.
What warranty is on it?
PoolTux lists a 20 year King warranty for this cover. The term belongs to the King solid line and is not the same as the one on the King99 mesh covers, so read the warranty against the line you are actually buying.
