Product details

This Emperor panel is a solid cover, not a mesh one, cut for a 16 x 36 ft rectangle with no step section. The fabric measures 18 x 38 ft, which is the pool plus a foot of overlap on each side so the straps can reach anchors set in the deck.

  • Blue PVC laminated fabric, 12 oz per square yard, burst strength listed at 400 PSI, resistant to ultraviolet light and mildew.
  • No daylight reaches the water through a solid panel, so algae has nothing to work with over the closed season.
  • The Aquaduck channel is built across the length of the cover to stop puddles from standing.
  • Straps run on a 5 by 5 ft grid into flush mount brass anchors that sit level with concrete or paver decking.
  • Tension-Tech springs pull the panel tight, and chafing strips keep the webbing from wearing on the coping.
  • Anchors, stainless steel springs, an installation rod, a tamping tool and a storage bag are supplied.

Because the fabric holds water rather than passing it, a cover pump belongs in the plan. That is the one real difference in use between this and a mesh panel, and it is also why the pool level does not climb on its own over the winter.

Is this a mesh cover or a solid one?
Solid. The fabric is PVC laminated and water does not pass through it, so rain and snowmelt stay on the surface and have to be moved off. In exchange a solid panel keeps out all light and all debris, so the water underneath comes through the winter cleaner than it does under mesh.
Do I need a cover pump for this cover?
Plan on one. Solid fabric holds water on top, and PoolTux lists a pump as one of the ways this cover is drained along with the built in Aquaduck channel and a mesh drain panel. ASTM F1346 section 7.3 expects a safety cover to shed substantially all standing water within 30 minutes of rainfall stopping, and on a solid panel the pump is what does the shedding.
What pool size does the 18 x 38 ft panel cover?
A 16 x 36 ft rectangle. Safety covers are sold by pool size, and the maker adds a foot of overlap on each side so the straps clear the coping and reach the deck anchors. Measure your pool at the water line before ordering.
How much weight does a safety cover have to hold?
ASTM F1346 section 7 applies a static load of 485 lb to a cover on a pool wider than 8 ft, split into 210, 225 and 50 lb weights, each spread across one square foot and all placed within a 3 ft radius. A narrower cover is tested at 275 lb. This panel is built to meet ASTM F1346.
