Product details

A 16 x 36 ft rectangular pool with no step takes this green Royal mesh panel, cut at 18 x 38 ft. The foot of extra fabric on each edge is the deck overlap, which is where the straps run down to their anchors and where the cover gets its tension. Measure the pool at the water line and order against that figure.

  • Green mesh fabric, published at 4.5 oz with a 385 PSI burst rating.
  • Rain and melting snow pass through the weave into the pool instead of sitting on the panel.
  • The strap grid is 5 ft square, tensioned with stainless steel springs.
  • Brass anchors and collars are made not to corrode and tamp level with concrete or paver decking.
  • Anchors, springs, an installation rod, a tamping tool, and a storage bag come with the cover.

Two things separate a safety cover from a winter cover under ASTM F1346: the static load test in section 7 and the drainage requirement in section 7.3, which asks for standing water to clear within 30 minutes of rainfall stopping. A winter cover faces neither, and the standard says plainly it is not intended as a barrier for children under five.

What size pool does this cover fit?
A 16 x 36 ft rectangular inground pool with no step. The panel is cut at 18 x 38 ft so the fabric can overlap onto the deck by about a foot on each side. Measure the pool itself at the water line, since the cover cannot be altered once it is made.
Is a winter cover an acceptable substitute?
Not as a barrier. ASTM F1346 divides covers into powered safety covers, manual safety covers, and other covers, and a winter cover is an other cover that the standard says is not intended to keep out children under five. Only the safety cover classes are put through the section 7 tests. This panel is sold as a safety cover made to meet ASTM F1346.
How long does the cover take to drain after rain?
The standard asks for substantially all standing water to be gone within 30 minutes of the rain stopping, in section 7.3 of ASTM F1346. A mesh panel handles that by passing the water straight through the weave into the pool, so there is nothing sitting on top to clear.
What is the fabric rated at?
PoolTux publishes the Royal mesh at 4.5 oz with a burst strength of 385 PSI and rates its level of protection as very good. It is the lighter fabric in the range, which makes it easier to spread and pull tight at installation.
