Quick overview
- Aluminum sulfate Plain alum, the traditional flocculant for clearing badly clouded water.
- Flocculant action It gathers heavy metals and suspended debris together so they can be removed rather than left in suspension.
- For cloudy water Aimed at water that has gone dull or milky and has not cleared with filtration alone.
- Five pound container Sized for a full treatment rather than a single small dose.
- Wide application Bio-Dex lists it for above ground, in ground, residential, commercial, spa and hot tub, and fountain use.
- Plan the cleanup Alum drops what it gathers, so be ready to vacuum or filter out the settled material afterward.

Product details
Bio-Dex AL125 is alum, aluminum sulfate, supplied in a 5 lb. container. Bio-Dex classifies it as a clarifier, and it works as a flocculant.
What a flocculant does
Ordinary clarifiers help the filter catch fine particles. A flocculant works differently: it binds heavy metals and suspended debris into clumps heavy enough to come out of suspension, which is why alum is reached for when water has gone cloudy and normal filtration has not fixed it.
What to expect
Because alum drops what it collects rather than holding it for the filter, plan on removing the settled material afterward. Bio-Dex lists this product for above ground and in ground pools, residential and commercial water, spas and hot tubs, and fountains.
