The Jandy R0408600 is the cam and microswitch kit for a Jandy valve actuator, supplied as the genuine factory part.

How the actuator knows where to stop

A valve actuator has no idea where the valve is pointing. It relies on a cam that turns with the drive and physically trips a microswitch at each end of travel. Those switches are what cut the motor at the right moment. When a switch contact fails or the cam wears round at its lobe, the actuator loses that reference: it runs past the port, hunts back and forth, or drives until it stalls and buzzes. All of that reads to the owner like a dead actuator, when the motor and gears are usually fine.

What you get and what to check

The cam and the microswitches come together in one kit, which is the sensible way to buy them, because the cam wear and the switch wear happen at the same time and replacing only one leaves the other to fail shortly after. Actuator internals have changed across generations, so before ordering, check that R0408600 is the kit called out for your particular actuator. Fitting a switch pack that is close but not correct wastes a trip and can leave the cam timing wrong.

What does this kit do?
