The Hammerhead HH5056 is the battery box for Hammerhead pool vacuums, supplied with its lid.
What it is for
The box houses the battery that runs the vacuum and the lid closes over it. Between them they keep water, grit and deck debris away from the terminals, which is the whole reason the enclosure exists.
When to replace it
These boxes live a rough life. They are carried, dragged and loaded in and out of trucks, and eventually the shell cracks or the lid stops latching properly. At that point the battery is no longer protected, so a new box is the cheap repair that prevents an expensive one.
