Jandy R0520200 is the hub assembly with 24 inch laterals for the JS60-SM sand filter. It is supplied as a complete underdrain set, hub and laterals together.
What the underdrain does
The laterals are the slotted arms at the bottom of the tank. They draw filtered water evenly from across the whole sand bed and pass it to the hub, which feeds the standpipe and the outlet. Even collection is what makes the entire depth of the sand do filtering work instead of water channelling through one path.
When to replace it
Sand appearing in the pool after a backwash or during normal running is the classic sign. Slots widen with age, arms crack and the hub can split, and any of those lets media straight into the returns. Because the parts age together, replacing the whole assembly is more reliable than swapping one broken lateral.
