Product details

The Raypak H000043 is the 50 amp contactor used in the model 5100, 6100 and 5100Ti pool heaters. It is the genuine Raypak part.

What it does

A contactor is a heavy duty relay. The control side of the unit sends a small signal to the contactor coil, the coil pulls a set of large contacts closed, and full line current flows through to the main load. Every heat cycle passes through those contacts.

How it fails

Making and breaking high current arcs the contact faces. Over years they pit, carbon up, and either stop conducting or, at the other extreme, weld themselves shut. A heater that will not start when it calls for heat, or one that will not stop when it should, points straight at the contactor.

Use the right part

The 50 amp rating is only part of the story. Coil voltage, terminal arrangement and mounting all have to match, which is why the Raypak part number is the sensible replacement rather than a generic contactor of the same amperage.

Which units does it fit?
Raypak lists H000043 for the model 5100, 6100 and 5100Ti pool heaters.
What does the contactor do?
It is the heavy duty relay that connects line power to the main load. A low current signal from the control energizes the coil, which pulls the contacts closed and passes the full current through.
Can I use a different 50 amp contactor?
Use the Raypak part. The rating is only one factor, and coil voltage, mounting and terminal layout all have to match for the replacement to drop in.
How do I know the contactor has failed?
Two patterns. If the coil is dead or the contacts are burnt open, the unit never starts when it calls for heat. If the contacts have welded closed, the unit will not shut off when it should.
