What the ballast does
A UV system treats water by passing it around a lamp inside a quartz sleeve. The ballast supplies and regulates the power that lamp needs. If the ballast fails, the lamp will not strike, water keeps flowing through an inert chamber, and the system quietly stops sanitizing while everything else looks normal.
