Questions about Hayward Pool Pumps

What does W3 at the start of a Hayward part number mean?

It marks Hayward's Open Line, the versions Hayward approves for sale online. Hayward's warranty gives a W3 product one year on parts and no labor, while the same model without the prefix belongs to its Expert Line, sold through stores, with three years on parts. They are separate products with their own codes, so quote the W3 number on the label for a claim.

Which Hayward pumps are made for above ground pools?

The Power-Flo LX and the Power-Flo Matrix. The LX comes in 1 HP with a 3 foot cord and 1.5 HP with a 6 foot cord. The Matrix comes in 1 and 1.5 HP, plus a two speed 1.5 HP that includes its switch, and its discharge turns between horizontal and vertical to line up with the pool's return. Every one of these with a stated voltage is a 115 volt pump.

Where do I find parts for my Hayward Super Pump?

On the Hayward Super Pump parts page, which carries Hayward's own exploded drawing with every part numbered. Pick your model, from the 1/2 HP SP2600X5 to the 2-1/2 HP SP2621X25, and each number shows Hayward's part for that size beside the generic replacements. The Super II, TriStar and Power-Flo have parts pages of their own.

Which Hayward pool pumps are variable speed?

The TriStar VS and TriStar XE, the MaxFlo VS, and the Super Pump VS and Super Pump XE. Here they run from 1.65 to 2.7 HP: the TriStar VS 950 takes 115 or 230 volts, while the TriStar VS 1.85 HP and the MaxFlo VS 1.65 HP need 230. Each is an inground pump, since Hayward's above ground Power-Flo models come in one or two speeds.
