Product details

The Hayward PowerFlo Matrix in 1 HP, part W3SP1592, is an above ground pool pump supplied with a cord. It has a large profile and integrated styling, so it reads as one shaped body rather than a stack of separate parts bolted together.

Debris handling

Two things on this pump are aimed at debris. The strainer basket is industrial size, so it collects a large volume before it needs emptying, and the impeller is made with wide openings so leaves and grit pass through instead of packing into it. On a pool under trees, that combination is the difference between a weekly job and a daily one.

Plumbing and installation

The discharge converts between vertical and horizontal at the press of a button, so the pump suits either layout without repiping around it. The intake and discharge connections are quick disconnect, which makes the pump easy to take out for winter or for service.

The motor

It is a heavy duty motor with an integrated automatic thermal overload protector, so it shuts itself down rather than cooking if it overheats. Make sure the receptacle and the circuit serving the pool meet local electrical code for pool equipment before the pump goes into service.
