Speck Pumps 95-X Single Speed Pool Pump, 7.5 HP 3 Phase, IG273-1750F-000

The Speck Model 95-X is a single speed 7.5 HP three phase pool pump, part number IG273-1750F-000. It is a medium head pump built to move a lot of water, which is what a waterfall, a negative edge or a similar feature actually needs. The alternative, several smaller pumps sharing the load, is noisier and harder to live with.

Housing and plumbing

The wet end is one large piece of plastic with the strainer basket built in and a two piece lid that lifts off without a fight. Suction and discharge each carry a 4 inch quick disconnect union, and the wrench for the unions and the lid is packed with the pump. Flanges are available on request.

The seal, and salt

Speck uses its own mechanical shaft seal on this pump. It is built so that if the pump is mistreated and loses water, it can keep turning dry for up to an hour without wrecking itself. The pump is also rated for water carrying up to 5000 ppm of salt, so it suits a salt chlorinated commercial pool.

Motor and service

The 95-X requires a motor starter. Speck offers the Model 95 line with either a totally enclosed fan cooled motor or an open drip proof motor, in single speed single or three phase, and the open drip proof version is also offered two speed on single phase; this listing is the single speed three phase configuration. When the motor does need attention it comes off without breaking into the plumbing, and the o-rings throughout are reusable. The pump is compatible with the Speck variable frequency drive line and the Speck automated flow system, and every unit is performance tested before it leaves the factory.
