What does the K mean in the Pentair EQK750?
Three phase. Pentair's parts list explains that an EQ Series model with a K is three phase and one without it is single phase. So this pump, 340033, is the EQK750 for 208-230 V or 460 V three phase service, and the EQ750, part number 340032, is Pentair's 7.5 HP single phase pump for 230 V.
Does a Pentair EQK750 need a motor starter?
Yes. Pentair's manual says its three phase EQ motors have no internal thermal protector, so each needs an external protective device, usually a starter, sized to the motor nameplate. A wrongly sized starter can burn out the motor or trip over and over. Pentair also asks for the rotation to be checked on every three phase pump: power it for one second and watch the motor coast down against the arrow on the pump.
What flanges and gaskets does the Pentair EQK750 take?
ANSI class 150 plastic flanges with 1/8 inch thick, full face class 150 gaskets: 6 inch at the strainer pot's suction and 4 inch at the discharge. The flanges are not included. Pentair sells them as kits with a gasket and stainless hardware, 357263 for the 6 inch side and 357262 for the 4 inch. Its manual gives 20 ft-lb for the flange bolts and rules out a 90 degree elbow fitted straight onto the inlet or outlet.
How much does the Pentair EQK750 weigh, and how big is it?
116 lb with its strainer pot, or 87 lb without, by Pentair's manual. With the pot it measures 41.56 inches long overall, and the pot is 21.5 inches high and 19 inches wide. Pentair's data sheet asks for at least 12 inches of clear space behind the motor so it can be serviced.
