Product details

The Pentair EQ Series EQ750, part number 340032, is a 7.5 HP single phase 230 volt commercial pool pump supplied with its hair and lint strainer pot. It is a single speed, self-priming pump with an all plastic wet end, a premium efficient motor and 6 in suction and 4 in discharge connections.

Electrical

Pentair's owner's guide rates the 340032 at 30.4 A full load and 35.2 A at its 1.15 service factor on 230 V, single phase, 60 Hz, and notes the figure can vary a little with the motor's manufacturer, so size the circuit to the nameplate. The motor is open drip-proof on a NEMA JM frame with Class F insulation, and Pentair's data sheet calls for an external thermal overload protector on every EQ model.

Hydraulics and build

Pentair's single phase curve puts the EQ750 at about 425 GPM at 50 ft of head, and the pump is rated to prime from 10 ft above the water in 45 minutes or less. The volute, motor adapter and closed impeller are PPO resin, close coupled to the motor on a 303 stainless steel shaft. Pentair limits water to 104 F and 50 psi at the pump.

Fit and replacement

Pentair positions the EQ Series as a drop-in replacement for its C Series and CSP pumps, and it works with the Pentair Acu Drive XS variable frequency drive. The flanges are ANSI class 150 and are sold separately. With the strainer pot the pump weighs 161 lb and measures 44.59 in long.

Before you order

The EQ Series is also built in other configurations under other part numbers. The three phase EQK750 is 340033, and 340021 is the single phase EQ750 without the strainer pot. Confirm single phase 230 V service at the pad.

Questions and answers

What people ask about this product, answered by our pool techs.

How many amps does the single phase Pentair EQ750 draw?
30.4 A at full load on 230 V, and 35.2 A at its 1.15 service factor, by Pentair's manual, which notes the figure can vary a little with the motor's manufacturer, so size the circuit to the nameplate. Pentair's data sheet says every EQ model needs an external thermal overload protector, and its manual asks for a dedicated power line because of the current drawn at start-up.
Can a Pentair EQ750 be used on a home pool in California?
Not to filter a residential pool. Pentair's manual says that in California a single speed pump or replacement motor of one total horsepower or more may not be sold or installed to filter a residential pool, under Title 20 of the California Code of Regulations, sections 1601 to 1609. The EQ750 is a single speed 7.5 HP commercial pump.
What is the difference between the Pentair EQ750 and the EQK750?
The motor's phase. The EQ750, this pump, is single phase on 230 V; the EQK750, part number 340033, is three phase on 208-230 V or 460 V. Pentair's parts list gives both the same impeller, 350029Z, and diffuser, 350033Z, and its curves put both at about 425 GPM at 50 ft of head. With the strainer pot the EQ750 weighs 161 lb and the EQK750 116 lb.
Can I pressure test the plumbing with a Pentair EQ750 installed?
Only with water, and only if the local code calls for a test. Pentair's manual says never to test with air pressure, not to take a pump fitted with the EQ strainer pot above 20 psi, and to put a pressure relief valve, part 350087, in the strainer pot's drain plug during the test so the pressure cannot climb past what was intended.
