Product details

The A&B Brush 5040 is an 18 inch algae brush with stainless steel bristles set into a curved blue aluminum back. It is the brush you reach for when algae has taken hold on a hard surface and a nylon brush is not touching it.

Why stainless

Algae anchors itself to plaster and gunite. A softer nylon brush tends to glide over the growth and burnish it rather than break it up, which is why a pool can look no better after an hour of brushing. Stainless bristles cut into it so the sanitizer can finish the job. The aluminum back matters too: an 18 inch head puts real load on the body, and aluminum keeps it from flexing away from the wall.

Surface warning

Keep this brush on plaster and gunite. Stainless bristles will scratch fiberglass and can tear a vinyl liner, so those pools need a nylon brush instead. The head fits a standard telescopic pole, which is not included. It is carried as A&B Brush 5040 and also referenced as 917LC.

Can I use this on a vinyl liner?
No. Stainless steel bristles are for hard surfaces such as plaster and gunite. On a vinyl liner or a fiberglass shell they will scratch or tear the surface, so use a nylon brush on those pools.
Why stainless steel instead of nylon?
Established algae grips hard surfaces and a nylon brush tends to slide over it. Stainless bristles cut into the growth so the sanitizer can reach what is left.
How wide is it?
18 inches, on a curved blue aluminum back.
Does it come with a pole?
No. The brush head is supplied on its own and fits a standard telescopic pool pole, which is bought separately.
