Maytronics Activate 25 lbs Glass Filter Media, Coarse

Activate is a glass filter media from Maytronics that takes the place of silica sand in a sand filter. This is the coarse grade in a 25 lb bag. Maytronics puts the glass through an activation process that changes its surface, and that treatment is what separates it from plain crushed glass.

Finer, cleaner filtration

The activated surface has about 300 times the surface area of sand, which lets the bed trap particles down to 4 to 5 microns instead of the much larger particles sand catches. The surface also carries a negative charge, so it attracts and holds bacteria rather than letting them pass, and it is self sterilizing, which inhibits bacteria and algae from reproducing inside the filter.

Loading it

Drain and empty the old sand, then load Activate to the media capacity listed for your filter. This bag is the coarse grade; the fine grade is sold separately.
