Aquamoto Pixel Glass is a glass filter media that goes into a sand filter in place of sand. It ships in a 40 lb. bag, part number 80-0040.

Why glass instead of sand

Sand works, but it has known weaknesses. It biofouls, it channels, and after a few seasons the bed has cut its own paths that let water through with less filtering than the tank gauge suggests. Glass resists both of those problems, and it does not need to be recharged or replaced the way a sand bed does.

What makes it Pixel Glass

The media is manufactured from a specific glass type and then processed to a particle size and shape chosen for filtration, not simply crushed. That grading is what gives the bed both its mechanical filtering and its electro-static effect on fine particles.

Changing over

No equipment changes are needed. Pump out and remove the old sand, check the laterals while the tank is open, then charge the filter with Pixel Glass to the media weight your filter calls for.
