Product details

The Anderson LD601 is an 8 oz bottle of leak detection dye, sold as a refill for dye testers. The flip top lid is there so the tester can be recharged without spilling, and one bottle provides approximately 40 refills.

How leak dye works

Water leaving a pool through a crack or a bad fitting creates a small local current. Release dye next to that spot and the current pulls it in, which turns an invisible loss into something you can point at. It is the simplest way to confirm a suspected leak at a light niche, a skimmer throat, a return fitting or a hairline crack in the shell.

Getting a clean result

The test only works in still water. Turn the pump and any features off, wait for the surface and the body of water to settle, and keep your own movement to a minimum. If circulation is still running, the dye drifts and every spot looks like a leak. Release a small amount at a time and watch it rather than clouding the area.

Handling

The dye is made to be seen, which means it will also stain skin, clothing and porous deck surfaces. Work over the water, close the lid between tests and store the bottle upright.

Questions and answers

What people ask about this product, answered by our pool techs.

How many refills does one bottle give?
The 8 oz bottle provides approximately 40 dye tester refills.
Does this include a tester?
No. This is the dye refill only. The pre filled dye leak tester is a separate Anderson item.
How do I use leak dye properly?
Shut the pump off and let the water go completely still first. Then release a small amount of dye next to the suspect fitting, crack or light niche and watch. If there is a leak, the dye is pulled into it in a clear stream.
Will it stain?
Leak dye is made to be highly visible, so treat it as a staining liquid. Keep it off decking and clothing, work over the water, and use the flip top lid rather than pouring from an open bottle.
