Product details
Aladdin Magic Lube II, part 650, is a silicone based lubricant and sealant in a 1 oz tube. It is the small tube of the product that lives in most service vans.
Where it goes
Pump lid O-rings, filter clamp seals, valve stems, union O-rings and threaded fittings. Anywhere a rubber seal has to slide into place and then hold pressure, a light film of silicone is what lets it do both.
Why silicone and not any grease
Petroleum based products attack many of the rubber compounds used in pool seals, so an O-ring greased with the wrong thing swells, softens and fails early. A silicone lubricant does not do that, which is why it is the standard around a pool pad.
How much to use
Less than people expect. A thin film across the seal is enough. A heavy coat collects grit, and grit under an O-ring is what causes the leak you were trying to prevent.
