Product details

Pentair R172036 is a .75 oz tube of silicone lubricant for the rubber seals on Rainbow automatic chlorine feeders. It is the lubricant Pentair lists against the feeder parts themselves.

Where it goes

The lid o-ring gets the most benefit. That seal is opened and closed every time the feeder is loaded, and a dry o-ring drags, pinches and eventually leaks. A thin film of silicone lets it seat evenly, holds the seal under pressure, and stops the lid from bonding to the body after a season in the sun. The internal o-rings that get handled during service want the same treatment.

Silicone, not grease

Silicone is chosen because it is compatible with the rubber compounds used in pool equipment. Petroleum based grease can swell or soften the same seals, so a tube kept for feeder work is worth having on the shelf.

Listed for Rainbow feeder models 300, 302, 300-19, 300-29, 300-29X, 320, 322, HC-3315, HC-3330 and 3340. Use it sparingly: a light coat, not a packed joint.

Questions and answers

What people ask about this product, answered by our pool techs.

What is this lubricant for?
The rubber seals on a Rainbow automatic chlorine feeder, in particular the lid o-ring and the internal o-rings that get disturbed every time the feeder is opened.
Which feeders does Pentair list it for?
Rainbow models 300, 302, 300-19, 300-29, 300-29X, 320, 322, HC-3315, HC-3330 and 3340.
How much do I use?
A thin film wiped over the o-ring is enough. Heavy grease collects grit and does not seal any better than a light coat.
Why silicone rather than a normal grease?
Silicone is compatible with the rubber used in pool equipment seals. Petroleum based grease can swell or degrade the same o-rings over time.
