Product details

The Swimables SW-41-007 is a generic thermal regulator for MasterTemp and Max-E-Therm pool heaters. It is an aftermarket part rather than the original manufacturer item, offered as an alternative when the OEM regulator is being replaced.

What the regulator does

The thermal regulator meters how much of the incoming water actually passes through the heat exchanger and how much bypasses it. That balance is what holds the exchanger in the temperature range it was designed for, whatever the pool water is doing.

Why it matters more than its size suggests

When the regulator sticks, the exchanger runs outside that band. Too cool and combustion gases condense inside the heater, which attacks the tubes from the outside. Too hot and the metal takes thermal stress it was not meant to take repeatedly. Either way the part that suffers is the heat exchanger, the most expensive component in the heater, which is why a suspect regulator is worth changing rather than watching.
