Which section this is
A Polaris feed hose is built from several sections. The leader hose is the one at the end of the run, closest to the cleaner head, and it is deliberately the most flexible piece in the set. That softness is what lets the cleaner turn and climb without the hose pulling against it.
When to change it
The leader takes more movement than any other section, so it is usually the first to stiffen, kink or split. A leader that has gone hard drags the cleaner off its pattern; one that is leaking bleeds off the pressure the cleaner needs. Both show up as poor coverage that is easy to blame on the booster pump.
