How a robot differs from the alternatives
A robotic cleaner is self contained. It does not connect to the skimmer, it does not need a booster pump, and it does not send what it picks up through the pool filter. It draws its own water, filters it inside the unit, and puts it back. That means the pump can run on a low speed schedule set for water turnover rather than being sized around a cleaner.
What the caddy is for
A robot is heavier out of the water than in it and needs somewhere to drain. The caddy gives it that, keeps it off the coping and out of direct sun between runs, and makes moving it to and from the pool a one person job.
