For a CompuPool system the cell is sold two ways, and which you need depends on the housing you have. An electrode is the bare set of plates that goes into your existing housing. A cell with housing is the whole clear body with the plates already inside. Both are matched to the power pack by its number, CPSC16, CPSC24, CPSC36 or CPSC48, while CPX and Infinity systems take their own corded cells. Electrodes and complete cells for CompuPool CPSC systems from the CPSC08 spa unit to the CPSC48, CPX series cells with a 7 ft cord, Infinity series cells, and CaliMar replacements for the CPSC24, CPSC36 and CFCP15.

Questions about CompuPool Salt Cells

Electrode or complete cell: which do I need for my CompuPool?

Look at the housing. If the clear body is sound and the unions seal, the electrode on its own is the repair: the listings say plainly that the housing, unions and o-rings are not included. If the housing is cracked or crazed, buy the cell with housing, which is the body and plates as one piece and still leaves the unions and o-rings to reuse. The complete CPSC48 cell adds one more caution, that the cell cord is not in the box either.

How many blades does my CompuPool cell have?

The blade count follows the model. The CPSC08 has two blades and is for spas and small pools up to 5,000 gallons. The CPSC16 has four and is rated to 20,000 gallons, the CPSC24 five for 26,000, the CPSC36 seven for 40,000 and the CPSC48 ten for 60,000. Output climbs with the blades, from about a pound of chlorine a day on the CPSC16 to two and a half on the CPSC48. Counting blades on the old electrode is a quick check that you have the right number.

Will a CPSC cell fit a CompuPool CPX system?

Two of the complete cells are listed for both: the CPSC24 cell with housing fits CPX 24 and CPSC24 systems only, and the CPSC48 one fits CPX 48 and CPSC48 only. The CPX series also has replacement cells of its own in 20,000, 30,000 and 40,000 gallon sizes, each with a 7 ft cord and a waterproof lead that locks to the power module. Infinity systems are separate again and take the i25 or i40 cell.

How do I clean a CompuPool cell?

Two of the electrode listings name the method, a mixture of water and muriatic acid, and neither gives a proportion, so take the ratio from the manual for your system. Too strong a mix strips the coating on the plates that does the work. The Infinity i40 cell needs less attention because it reverses polarity to clean itself. Worth knowing while the cell is out: the CPSC24 and CPSC48 listings give a default salt setting of 3,500 ppm, which can be adjusted.
