Quick overview
- Two part epoxy primer Mixed from two components and applied as a base coat, not a finish coat.
- For rough surfaces The heavy viscosity fills unusually rough plaster or concrete and leaves a smoother profile to paint over.
- Seals absorbent surfaces Bare plaster and concrete drink up the first coat of paint, and priming stops the topcoat from disappearing into the shell.
- Sandblasted shells Particularly effective where the surface has been sandblasted before repainting.
- Topcoat pairing Use it only under Poxolon or Zeron. Do not combine epoxy primers with rubber base paints.
- Coverage 100 to 150 square feet per gallon, depending on how porous the surface is.

Product details
Gunzite is a two part epoxy primer from Olympic Pool Coatings, supplied in a 1 gallon container. It is a base coat for unusually rough plaster or concrete, not a finish.
Why a primer matters
Bare plaster and concrete are highly absorbent. Left unprimed, they pull the first coat of paint into the surface, which wastes material and leaves the finish uneven. A primer seals the shell and gives the topcoat something consistent to sit on.
Where Gunzite fits
Gunzite is deliberately heavy bodied. On a rough or sandblasted shell that viscosity acts as a fill coat, knocking back the texture and leaving a much smoother profile for the finish. It is the primer to reach for when the surface is coarser than a standard primer can handle.
Pairing it correctly
Use Gunzite only as an undercoat for Poxolon or Zeron. Do not use epoxy primers in conjunction with rubber base paints. Coverage runs 100 to 150 square feet per gallon, so work out the surface area before you buy.
