Product details

Olympic Pool Coatings Hydrolon in Bikini Blue is a water base acrylic enamel pool paint, supplied in a 1 gallon can as part 713 G.

What it is

Hydrolon is Olympic water based acrylic line. Water base acrylic is the most forgiving of the pool coating families to apply: it goes on with ordinary tools, it can be used on a damp surface where solvent systems cannot, and it does not need the long cure that epoxy does.

Compatibility comes first

Pool paints are grouped by chemistry, and they do not all bond to each other. Before you buy any coating, work out what is already on the surface. Painting a fresh coat over an incompatible one is the usual reason a job lifts and peels within a season.

Coverage and preparation

This listing is one gallon, so measure the floor and walls and check the coverage rate on the can against the number of coats you plan. Whatever the paint, the result comes down to preparation: a clean, correctly prepared and fully dried surface before the first coat goes on.

Questions and answers

What people ask about this product, answered by our pool techs.

What kind of paint is this?
A water base acrylic enamel from the Olympic Hydrolon line, in Bikini Blue, supplied by the gallon.
Can I paint it over my existing coating?
Only if the existing coating is compatible. Pool paints are grouped by type, and putting the wrong type over another is what causes peeling, so identify what is already on the surface before you start.
How many gallons do I need?
That depends on the surface area of your pool and how many coats you are applying. Measure the floor and walls and follow the coverage rate on the can.
Does the surface need preparation?
Yes. Pool coatings depend on a clean, properly prepared and fully dried surface. Skipping that step is the most common reason a new paint job fails early.
