Olympic Pool Coatings Poxolon 2 in Blue Ice, part 2225 G, is a 1 gallon container of two coat, high gloss epoxy pool coating, a 2 part catalyst system for plaster, gunite and fiberglass pools.

Coverage and finish

Olympic gives Poxolon 2 an average coverage of 225 to 250 square feet per gallon, with an easy to apply high gloss finish put on by roller or airless spray. It is offered in 11 colors, including white, Blue Ice, Bikini Blue and Blue Mist, and Olympic describes up to seven years of service. The color shown on screen is a digital approximation, so check Blue Ice against a printed color card.

Application

Olympic recommends the correct primer on bare surfaces, and on old epoxy it says to dull all glossy areas by light sanding. Use a 9 inch roller cover with a solvent resistant core, firm even strokes and plenty of product to work the coating into the porous surface. Apply two coats, putting on the second once the first is dry enough to walk on without marring. Before filling the pool, allow 3 days at 75 to 85 F, 4 days at 70 to 75 F, 5 days at 65 to 70 F, or 6 days at 60 to 65 F.

Before you order

Work out what is already on the shell and how much surface you need to cover, then divide the area by the coverage figure to count gallons. Order enough for the whole job together so the color stays consistent. For steps, shallow areas and wading pools, Olympic says to sprinkle white sand or marble dust on the wet coating for slip resistance. Zeron is Olympic's one coat epoxy and covers less per gallon, at 125 to 150 square feet.
