Product details

The Dura Plastics 457-020 is a 2-inch PVC union with slip sockets on both ends. It is sold as a single fitting.

What a union is for

A union is a joint you can take apart. The nut in the middle backs off and the two halves separate, which means a pump, filter, heater or chlorinator can be pulled off the pad for service without a saw and a pile of new fittings. On any equipment that will eventually need removing, a union on each side is the difference between a ten minute job and an afternoon of replumbing.

Fitting it

Both ends are slip, so they solvent weld onto 2-inch PVC pipe with the usual primer and cement. Glue the socket halves to the pipe with the nut already in place, and leave the union nut hand tight so it can be broken loose later.
