The Hayward SP1484 is a self-aligning double end union assembly, 1-1/2 inch male threaded on one end and a 1-1/2 inch slip socket on the other. It is molded in white ABS and supplied complete.
Why unions belong on a pool pad
Every piece of equipment on the pad eventually comes off: a pump for a motor, a filter for a teardown, a heater for service. Where there is a union, that job is a hand tightened nut. Where there is not, it is a saw, a coupling and a day of glue cure before the pool runs again.
The self-aligning part
Plumbing on a pool pad is never perfectly square, and a rigid union will fight a run that is a degree or two off. This one seats itself as the nut comes up, which is what lets it seal against pipe that does not line up on its own. The Full-Flo body keeps the bore open so the union is not the restriction in the line.
