What the equalizer does
An equalizer is a second suction port set into the pool wall below the skimmer. If the water level drops below the skimmer mouth, the skimmer would otherwise pull air and the pump would lose prime. The equalizer keeps a supply of water reaching the pump instead.
Fitting and finish
The 1-1/2 inch MIP thread lets the fitting screw straight into a matching female connection at the wall. This is the gray version; the same fitting is sold in white under its own part number, so pick the one that matches the rest of your wall fittings.
