The Fiberstars A7002 is the replacement cooling fan for Fiberstars fiber optic illuminators. It is listed for the FS250 and FS3, and for all 2000 and 6000 series units, including the 6004, 6008 and 6004-AS.

Why the fan matters

A fiber optic illuminator concentrates a lot of light and a lot of heat into a small metal box, and the fan is the only thing carrying that heat back out. When it seizes, slows or gets choked with debris, the internal temperature climbs and the unit protects itself by shutting down.

Diagnosing it

The classic pattern is an illuminator that lights normally, runs for a while and then goes dark, coming back only once it has cooled. That reads like a lamp or ballast problem, but a stopped fan produces exactly the same behavior for a fraction of the cost. Check that the fan spins freely and actually runs before ordering the expensive parts.

Which illuminators does it fit?

What does the fan do?
